The
author, Angela Kay Dotson (now Mrs. Lawlor), currently
lives in North Carolina with her husband Jay, 5-year old
son Nathaniel, and pet cat Simon. Diagnosed with PCOS
in 1987, and frustrated by the lack of patient information
on the subject of pcos, she began work on the first book
edition in 1998. Angela is working on several writing
projects.

May
2006. A scene from our adoption journey. A very happy
Baba and Nathaniel (4 and a half when we adopted him)
after dinner in China. We were enjoying some Chinese lounge
singers crooning American songs while we danced in the
lobby.

Angela
writes:
I was diagnosed with PCOS in 1987 at the age of nineteen. (The
condition was then called Stein-Levanthol Syndrome). At the time
of my diagnosis there was no literature available to the public.
In
the late 90's, (after pretty much ignoring my condition) I discovered
that PCOS affected much more than fertility as I was initially
led to believe. Out of my outrage that I hadn't known more from
physicians that were treating me, I decided to write a book. My
first edition was among the first 5 or so books that began to
address the condition.
The
book is a lifestyle manual, documenting my personal story, an
overview of PCOS, an overview of insulin, and diet and exercise
lifestyle changes. This book is an empowering, motivational and
inspirational tool to help women fight back and take control of
their bodies.
I
sincerely hope that other women will be inspired to make changes
in their lifestyles. The objective is to control your life instead
of letting PCOS control it for you.
